Amaravati 2.0: PM Modi to Lay Foundation Stone for Capital’s Redevelopment Today
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lay the foundation stone today for the redevelopment of Amaravati, marking a significant step toward reviving the capital project of Andhra Pradesh. The ambitious plan will see Amaravati transformed into a world-class city with a total investment of ₹1 lakh crore.
The project will be executed in two phases: the first phase will involve an expenditure of ₹55,343 crore, while the second phase will cost ₹41,170 crore. Originally inaugurated in 2014, Amaravati was conceptualized as a modern capital city built on 33,000 acres of land contributed by local farmers under a land pooling scheme.
The new masterplan follows a “9 Cities” concept, aiming for broad roads, underground utility lines, and extensive blue-green zones to ensure environmental sustainability. The vision is to create a global-standard urban hub.
Institutions such as AIIMS, VIT, and SRM have already established campuses in the region. Additionally, land has been allocated to 131 central and private institutions, signaling renewed momentum in Amaravati’s development.
