Ibrahimpatnam Mandal in NTR district is facing a severe drinking water crisis after ash-contaminated water from the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS) led officials to halt supply to 104 surrounding villages. Around 27.9 million liters per day of drinking water has been cut off, affecting homes, schools, and hospitals.
Residents, already suffering from air pollution in the area, are now burdened with unsafe water. Protests erupted last week on the national highway, with locals demanding immediate action. Officials have promised to inspect the issue at VTPS and restore clean water supply as soon as possible.
Locals are urging authorities to protect their basic right to safe drinking water.
