Indian-American Population Reaches 5.2 Million, Becomes Second-Largest Asian Group in U.S.
The Indian-American population in the United States has grown to 5.2 million, making it the second-largest Asian group in the country. According to a recent report, the community has grown by 174% since 2000, with more than half now U.S. citizens. Most Indian Americans live in states like California, Texas, and New Jersey.
Known for high education and income levels, 79% of Indian Americans hold at least a bachelor’s degree, and their median household income is $100,000—the highest among Asian groups. They also have a big impact in business, with Indian-origin CEOs leading 16 Fortune 500 companies and co-founding many tech startups. Indian culture is thriving too, with yoga, Indian food, and festivals like Diwali becoming part of American life.
