Jagan Accuses Andhra Police of Custodial Torture Amid Alleged Emergency

YS Jagan
YSRCP chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused the Andhra Pradesh police of custodial torture, describing the incident as part of an “undeclared emergency” in the state. Reddy’s comments came after allegations surfaced that Harikrishna, the son of YSRCP leader Yellaiah, was tortured by the Dachepalli police in Palnadu district. Reddy condemned the police action, stating that it signals the breakdown of democratic order.
A video shared by Reddy on X showed Harikrishna’s family protesting outside the Dachepalli police station, alleging that he was detained without explanation and subjected to violence. In the footage, Harikrishna’s wife and relatives can be seen demanding justice, with the wife threatening to consume pesticides if her husband was not released. The video also shows Harikrishna, visibly battered, being helped to walk by a police officer. Local police officials, however, denied the claims, stating that Harikrishna had been arrested for allegedly stabbing a man in an inebriated state and was remanded as per legal procedures.
