Major setback for YSRCP Leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy’s as Supreme Court Rejects Plea
In a major setback to former Andhra Pradesh minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Kakani Govardhan Reddy, the Supreme Court on Friday rejected his plea seeking protection from arrest in connection with illegal quartz mining and SC/ST Atrocities Act cases. The court slammed Reddy for allegedly misleading the judiciary by claiming he had no criminal cases against him, despite declaring them in his 2024 election affidavit.
The bench, comprising Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Aravind Kumar, questioned why the case was brought before the Supreme Court when it was already pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s division bench. Senior advocate Siddharth Dave, representing Reddy, argued the case was politically motivated and approached the apex court because the High Court hearing was adjourned to June 16. However, the court, after examining the facts and allegations, said it could not grant anticipatory bail while the investigation was ongoing. Though the petition was dismissed, the bench allowed Reddy to withdraw it upon request.
